Grid & Utility represents a strategic expansion of the Alliance for Renewable Electrification’s (ARE) mandate in response to the evolving realities of power systems in emerging markets.
As grids face increasing pressure from demand growth, renewable integration, climate impacts, and ageing infrastructure, utilities and regulators are seeking private-sector solutions, investment, and innovation to improve performance, resilience, and decarbonisation.
ARE aims to bridge the outdated divide between off-grid and grid-connected systems, and empower utilities, IPPs, renewable energy and storage providers to collaborate in building and fostering integrated, reliable, flexible, efficient and decarbonised power networks.
Therefore, this segment includes grid support, expansion, densification, optimisation and stability solutions, resilience, integrating renewable energy production and storage, transmission and distribution into national and regional networks. It also promotes lifecycle sustainability in grid infrastructure and components through circular economy strategies.

ONG ACRA
ARE is:
- The go-to industry association and convening platform for private renewable energy actors contributing to grid-based solutions,
- A gateway for public utilities, TSOs, DSOs and regulators to engage with credible private-sector partners,
- A global thought leader on renewables-based grid innovation, hybridisation, and utility–private sector collaboration in emerging markets.

ANKA Madagascar
ARE will leverage its neutrality and credibility to support enabling environments for private participation in grid services.
Key activities include:
- Dialogue with governments, utilities, and regulators,
- Development of policy briefs and guidance,
- Integration of grid-focused sessions and deal-oriented formats within flagship events, notably EAIF,
- Organisation of targeted side-events and matchmaking at major international forums (Africa Energy Forum, Asia Clean Energy Forum),
- Capacity-building programmes for utilities, regulators, TSOs and DSOs,
- Co-delivery of trainings with ARE members and technical partners,
- Deployment of country-level pilots, including fragile and reform-oriented markets, and
- Facilitation of structured exchanges between utilities, IPPs, technology providers, and investors.
This pillar complements ARE’s access and C&I activities by addressing the system-level foundations required for scale, reliability, and long-term energy transition.
