ARE joins Power Shift Africa dialogue on the role of electrification in Africa’s development

The Alliance for Renewable Electrification (ARE) joined Power Shift Africa’s new three part Dialogue Series on Electrification in Africa, contributing to the first session, “What does electrification mean for Africa?”, held virtually on 27 August as part of the Electrify Now Campaign.

The dialogue brought together policymakers, energy experts, civil society representatives, development partners and private sector stakeholders to explore how electrification can support Africa’s development ambitions and contribute to inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

ARE highlighted the important role of renewable energy technologies in advancing commercial and industrial electrification across the continent. Her intervention emphasised the potential of decentralised renewable energy solutions to support productive uses of energy, strengthen businesses and help meet the growing electricity needs of Africa’s productive sectors.

The dialogue forms part of Power Shift Africa’s Electrify Now Campaign, which seeks to foster discussion and action around Africa’s electrification priorities and the role of energy access in driving development.
