Burhani Solar – Residential solar & battery storage project Diani (Kenya)

Who, What & Where

  • Burhani Solar
  • Residential solar PV and battery storage project
  • Diani, Kenya

The Company

Burhani Solar successfully completed the design, supply, installation and commissioning of a solar PV and battery energy storage system for a private residence in Diani, Kenya.

The system was designed to reduce dependence on the utility grid, provide reliable backup power during outages and enable the household to maximise the use of clean solar energy throughout the day and night.

The installed system consists of:

  • 15.6 kWp solar photovoltaic system
  • 45 kWh lithium battery energy storage system
  • 16 kW hybrid inverter
  • Integrated AC and DC protection and changeover system

The solar array supplies the residence during daylight hours while simultaneously charging the battery bank. Stored energy is then available for use at night and during grid interruptions, providing the home with improved energy security and reduced reliance on utility electricity.

The project included:

  • Site assessment and load analysis
  • Engineering and system design
  • Fabrication and installation of the solar mounting structure
  • Solar PV installation
  • Hybrid inverter installation
  • Battery storage integration
  • AC and DC protection works
  • System programming, testing and commissioning

This project demonstrates how appropriately sized distributed renewable-energy systems can provide Kenyan households with greater energy independence, resilience and long-term control over their electricity costs.

The Solution

  • Solar PV
  • Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
  • Hybrid Inverter
  • Residential Electrification

Project Outcome

  • Improved household energy reliability
  • Backup power during utility outages
  • Greater utilisation of solar energy
  • Reduced dependence on grid electricity
  • Lower exposure to rising electricity costs
  • Increased household energy independence
