Innovation for Electrification Series

ARE’s Innovation for Electrification (I4E) Series enables its members to showcase their technologies, products and services improving their brand, and corporate identity, thus turning viewers into customers.

UNIDO ITPO Germany Cooperation

The ARE-ITPO cooperation aims to showcase technologies, expertise and experience of German/European companies from the DRE sector in emerging markets. The cooperation strives to facilitate interaction between key DRE stakeholders by providing a strong platform to mobilise investments to catalyse global energy access efforts and achieve SDG-7 and other SDGs by 2030.

ARE Investment Academy

ARE organises Investment Academies to improve access to finance for DRE projects and businesses under its training & capacity building activities for ARE Members. The goal of the academy is to build the capacity of the local early-stage (M)SMEs in developing countries by offering them training programmes on business development and access to finance along with exposure to international investors.

Finance for Electrification Series

The Finance for Electrification (F4E) Series is a member-exclusive webinar series highlighting financing opportunities in the decentralised renewable energy (DRE) sector. The first webinar of the F4E Series took place on 15 May 2023 featuring EDP, BGFA, Siemens Stiftung, and Energy Catalyst.

Africa Desk

The ARE Africa Desk was set up in cooperation with the African Development Bank to strengthen ARE’s activities in Africa and boost the development of thriving private sector-driven DRE markets in the continent.

GET.invest Cooperation

Based on this shared objective, ARE and GET.invest cooperate on several activities in Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific region, including information and matchmaking events with developers, financiers and government officials, capacity building activities for the public and private sector, as well as outreach and mobilisation activities, such as workshops, webinars and business delegations.

Powering Industries

The Powering Industries campaign, initiated by the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) and supported by GET.invest, strives to connect renewable energy suppliers and industries in emerging markets with decarbonisation objectives and challenges in accessing reliable and affordable power.

Coopération avec l’ADEME / ADEME Cooperation

The French Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME) and the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) entered into a partnership to promote and provide market intelligence on productive use of energy, as well as advance renewable and reliable electricity for essential services in Benin, Cameroon and Madagascar.

ESG Compliance Toolkit for African Mini-Grids

In a joint initiative, the African Development Bank (AfDB), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), are working on a technical assistance and capacity-building project: “Development of Guidance Materials and Support Tools for Compliance with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Standards for the African Mini-Grid Sector.”

Cornerstone of Rural Electrification (CORE)

CORE enables resilient rural and peri-urban communities by ensuring safety, efficiency and reliability become the cornerstone of decentralised electrification.

Grid Efficiency and Resilience (GEAR)

GEAR offers technical assistance to utilities and governments to increase the efficiency, reliability and resilience of electricity grids. Its mission is to maximise the amount of electricity delivered to households and businesses in emerging markets, thereby accelerating socio-economic development and reducing GHG emissions.

Partnership for Responsible Battery and Metal Recycling (ProBaMet)

Improving battery recycling in Nigeria, raising labour and environmental standards, and establishing sustainable trade flows for raw materials – these are the declared aims of the new project Partnership for Responsible Battery and Metal Recycling. In this new project, partners from Nigerian civil society, the metal processing industry and the solar industry are working together with the Oeko-Institut to develop a cooperative approach to the responsible recycling of lead-acid batteries.

Consumer Protection Principles for Clean Energy Mini-Grids

With the recognition that the mini-grid industry understands the value of consumer protection principles both for their business and to respect consumer rights in often poor and remote villages, the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), supported by the Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA), Smart Power India (SPI), launched Consumer Protection Principles for Clean Energy Mini-Grids in October 2019. The project was funded by Swedfund.

International Network of Solar Technology and Application Resource Centres (STAR C)

The International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), with funding of the Government of France, are implementing the project STAR C. The overall objective is to create a strong network of institutional capacities within ISA Member States to enhance quality infrastructure (QI) for the uptake of solar energy product and service markets, particularly in least developed countries (LDCs) and small island developing states (SIDS).

Paving the way for Clean Energy Transition with DRE (PWCET)

Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) and Green People's Energy (GBE) initiated a series titled ‘Paving the way for Clean Energy Transition with Decentralised Renewable Energy (PWCET)’. The objective of this new Series is to promote public discourse on the subject of the ‘clean energy transition’ with DRE in Sub-Saharan Africa, which is the focus topic of GBE.

Catalysing Green Rural Job Creation with DRE in West Africa

The Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), in close collaboration with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), conducted desk research and consultations with key stakeholders and developed a study entitled “Catalysing Green Rural Job Creation with Decentralised Renewable Energies in West Africa”.

Renewables for Impact

As part of a GET.invest project, the Alliance for Rural Electrification has launched the Renewables for Impact campaign, highlighting the transformative role of distributed renewable energy in Sub-Saharan Africa.
